The March Edit

I’ve learned to love the month of March because of the two worlds it contains. The month feels ecstatic and hopeful yet it can easily humble us. We get a few warm days or “false springs,” only to wake up to frosty mornings, the occasional snowstorm, and plenty of cold wind as the jet stream shifts overhead.
I find it funny that we have a funny cultural life hack here in the US: we celebrate calendar holidays as if they mark the seasons themselves. Memorial Day signals the beginning of summer, Labor Day closes it out, and the holiday season has become a six-week celebration of all things winter. I often wonder how many people think of the first day of winter as mid-December rather than winter being here sometime after Thanksgiving—or even Halloween. I would bet the majority believe more in the latter.
Then there’s me, who throughout the year, carries a quiet argument against this ritual in my head—purely because I’m an earth scientist. A season is not truly a season until our planet has aligned with the sun accordingly. Memorial Day does not mean summer. The summer solstice does. (But if you know me, you know I’ll embrace anyway to celebrate!).
Yet I’m optimistic that people are more in tune with the arrival of spring than any other seasonal turning point. Daffodils begin showing their faces in yards and parks, the days grow warmer, and suddenly people start wondering out loud: What day is the first day of spring this year? March brings something special to the table because it stands on its own when it comes to facilitating a true seasonal shift. One that feels like a collective holiday - the first day of Spring! Which is on March 20th, by the way.
Simply put, I love seeing nature grab everyone’s attention and lead the way. I wish it always worked like that. In that spirit, I hope you have a lovely March!

a few things I’ve been loving lately:
In my pantry
I’ve been reaching for this special vinegar from BRIGHTLAND constantly lately - splashing it over simple greens, whisking it into quick vinaigrettes, and even adding a dash to cocktails. Parasol is bright, delicate, and just the right amount of tangy.

What I’m baking
I always love my Rustic French Apple and Chocolate Cake - read about it and find the recipe here!
On my counter
These flowers from Floral Post have been brightening my kitchen for well over a week now. They take a thoughtful approach to sourcing — working closely with flower farmers when their own garden isn’t in season. A beautiful bouquet that feels just as meaningful as it is lovely.

My entertainment lately
Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has my attention lately. I love this show for its great capture of fashion/life in the 90s and absolutely adore the portrayal of a strong female character. Call me a millennial, but I love this show!
In my Closet
Do I own an iron? …maybe? I truly couldn’t tell you where it is. Thankfully, Poète exists. Born in Grasse, France, their Clothing Spritz™ smooths wrinkles and refreshes natural fabrics in seconds — which feels especially helpful as we step into the linen-loving months of spring and summer.
